“Le Stelle Splendenti”, painting and poem by MIA BARKAN CLARKE, New York

(copyright Mia Barkan Clarke)

As your luster lingers

you leave your mark

a pungent sparkle

like bubbles popping

fresh dew

on bare skin

a bright orange sunrise

at Primavera’s dawn

drenched with the scents

of currents,

and fresh cut grass

after a long,

You leave your imprint—

a trail

of footsteps

on spongy sand

leading a path

to where sea shells

come to be gathered

by young children

to be painted

blessed and sanctified

sentimentally kept

in a sacred,

secret place

storing memories

to be reflected upon

through the many years

to come.
