TO DIE WITH EYES WIDE OPEN

Out of the depths

(inside the pyramids)

eyes piercing

the supernal dark,

the enigma

of existence—

the last place—

captured here

in a face,

a portrait—

a portal into

the endless

mystery

where we have

come from,

where we are

going,

why we are

here.

MOON

Why not the sun

Warm, vibrant

And longed for

Through the Winter months

The barren time

With the longer days

The warmer sun

Encouraging

Blossoms

And romance.

Why the moon

Silver cold in the nightly air

For protestations of love

Boat trips

On a glacial sea

Flickering strands of light

Reflected

Lighting ripples

On the shore

And the face of lovers

Eerie and more beautiful

Than by day

The keen air

Warmed by smiles

And kisses

Not sun

As they fall into

Each other’s arms

Quoting poetry

Under the moon.

LUNA

Perché non il sole

Caldo, vibrante

E desiderato

Attraverso i mesi invernali

Il tempo arido

Con i giorni più lunghi

Il sole più caldo

Che incoraggia

Fioriture

Ed idilli.

Perchè la luna

Fredda come l’argento nell’aria notturna

Per dichiarazioni d’amore

Gite in barca

Su un mare glaciale

Scintillanti fili di luce

Riverberi di

Luminose increspature

Sulla spiaggia

Ed i visi degli innamorati

Misteriosi e più belli

Che di giorno

L’aria pungente

Riscaldata dai sorrisi

E dai baci

Non il sole

Mentre cadono

Uno nelle braccia dell’altra

Rievocando poesie

Sotto la luna.

COLORS OF SHADOW

Luci, ombre

modulano

liquide trasparenze

in una danza lenta:

gocce di mare

adagiate

su schegge di ghiaccio

e

preziosi fiori di smeraldo

accesi da bagliori di fuoco.

Un turbinio di colori

che si accendono e spengono

nel silenzio

del giorno che passa.

THE SORCERER

He                               He                               He

walks                          runs                             eyes me

nonchalantly               to                                up and down

my way                       the next                      unexpectledly

picks off                     one                              inflicts

someone                     on                               vanishing trick

on my right                 the list

wham                          mustn’t                       and job done

bam                             waste                          ticks off

he’s gone                    time                            my name

crunch                         those                            before

scrunch                       who know                  jogging

then whirls                  wait                            off – on

towards me                 their turn                      again

twirling his                 he turns                        now you’re here

magic stick                 like a top                      now you’re not.

turns away –                throws stardust

to smite                       to dazzle

another day.               comes to a stop.                     AERONWY  THOMAS
